Instructions To Be Followed After Extraction Of Any Tooth
1. For an hour after extraction, you should place pressure on the gauze pad covering the extraction site. If bleeding continues, apply new gauze and pressure for and additional 45 minutes.
2. After extraction, place a cold compress on your face near the extraction site for 20 minutes. Remove for 10 minutes. Repeat.
3. Do not eat or drink hot foods and beverages.
4. Plan to eat cold and soft foods, such as soups, milkshakes, fruit juice, and yogurt, for 2-3 days.
5. Do not rinse your mouth.
6. Do not use a straw.
7. Do not spit, blow through your nose or sneeze as it might dislodge the blood clot.
8. Do not drink carbonated beverages.
9. Avoid smoking and alcohol for at least 48 hours after extraction
10. Do not brush your teeth on the day. Then resume normal home care, gently brushing and flossing.
11. Avoid exercising for 12-24 hours and heavy lifting for 2-3 days
12. Some bruising, swelling, and pain are normal – particularly if you have had a wisdom tooth extraction. Take your prescribed medication and use a cold compress on your face.
13. Do not touch the extraction site with your fingers or anything else.
14. Do not bite your lips, cheeks, or scrape your gums. Children should be watched carefully to make sure they don’t do this. It will damage soft tissues and result in pain.
15. After 24 hours start with warm saline gargles. Continue for 3-4 days
16. Keep taking the medications as prescribed.
17. Get your sutures (if given) removed on the 7th day after the extraction.
